Thought Machine, one of the UK's leading fintech companies, is undergoing a period of rapid expansion and is looking to hire a Head of Quality.

Our mission is to cure one of the banking industry's primary problems: its reliance on outdated IT infrastructure. Nearly every bank is stuck on a legacy IT platform, which cripples their ability to innovate and give their customers the type of service they deserve.

Our solution to this is Vault: a complete retail banking platform that is capable of being configured easily to suit the needs of any bank. We have built Vault from the ground up as a cloud native, microservice API architecture platform. As the Head of Quality, you will be responsible for the quality and reliability of our software products delivered to our clients. Your role will be to build upon current governance processes to deliver significant improvements in testing, deployment and quality control of our software products. The role will involve overseeing a team of QA Engineers as well as collaborating with other teams across the business including engineering, delivery and product management.

DUTIES

  • Report on the quality and reliability of our codebase and products.
  • Identify areas of improvement within the processes across engineering and delivery.
  • Establish strategies and plans that will systematically improve the quality of our software, the health of our codebase, our communication model and the experience of our clients
  • Evaluate the impact of product changes, release timings and delivery approaches have on our customers and our business model.
  • Facilitate internal and external teams to resolve issues impacting our clients.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Delivery and Product teams to ensure that ongoing work continues to meet and exceed our quality bar.
  • Establish and implement best practices, training materials, and test tooling, ensuring we adopt a scalable approach to quality.
  • Manage senior stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Report to external stakeholders the level of quality set and achieved as part of our agreed client deliveries.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Demonstrate experience in testing and developing governance and methodologies in a highly technical / engineering environment
  • Familiarity with both the functional and non-functional testing of APIs and web services
  • Demonstrate having driven a culture of continuous improvement
  • Experienced and effective at leading; both direct teams and in cross-functional projects.
  • Proven ability to investigate and resolve technically challenging issues
  • Adaptable and able to flex with technological and business priority changes
  • Excellent reporting and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in testing in a CI/CD environment
  • Experience in testing cloud-native applications and technologies (e.g. Kafka and Kubernetes)
  • Confident in using Lean/Agile methodology
